Talakawa Focus Initiative (TAFI) is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO), established in 2008 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on November 1, 2011 (Registration No. CAC/IT/NO48126). The organization was founded to support vulnerable individuals, groups, and communities across Northern Nigeria through effective service delivery.
Currently, TAFI operates in Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna States, focusing on creating avenues for citizens to actively participate in development processes while equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make meaningful impact.
“Talakawa” is a Hausa word meaning less-privileged people. True to its name, the organization is committed to empowering vulnerable populations to become self-reliant and advocate to policymakers and local authorities for improved access to basic services, enhanced transparency, and accountability.
Through its programs, TAFI strengthens the ability of excluded and underserved populations to access social transformation services more effectively. Project beneficiaries play an active role in strategic planning and program implementation across areas including healthcare, water, sanitation, hygiene, education, economic strengthening, agriculture and livelihoods, gender inclusion, and social development.

All our programs are designed with sustainability in mind, ensuring that targeted groups can maintain and build upon the initiatives. Key strategies include emphasizing community participation, leveraging local resources, mobilizing funds, and promoting hands-on learning during project execution. Participatory impact monitoring and evaluation are conducted to track progress, and partnering communities are encouraged to model project prototypes from initiation through to ongoing maintenance.
